The Game Bag

The other night my husband and I decided to have a game night. We settled on Scrabble, but when we got the box out we discovered the plastic bag that came with the game to hold the tiles had been lost somewhere, so naturally I had to make one...

I'll probably end up making a few more for different games we have around the house. Maybe one for cards, one for dice, even one for Hungry Hungry Hippos!

Halloween Cards

I made a few cards for Halloween. Today was ugly and rainy, so it seemed fitting to get in the spooky mood!

All the cards were made using Stampin' Up! materials (my mother-in-law is a rep). I think Halloween is the perfect time of year to get creative with lots of textures! Now to send these off to family in California and Oklahoma!

The Little Lady Bloomers

I know we all have beautiful daughters, and the last thing we want is for those little dolls to go running around with their Disney Princess underwear flashing here and there. Now you can create a pretty pair of bloomers for you little lady...

You'll find the tutorial at the top of the page under Tutorials, or here...

Camera Strap

Make yourself a beautiful, sturdy strap for your camera and ditch that plain black one... you know you're way too awesome to have anything so boring!

You'll find the tutorial for the camera strap at the top of the page under Tutorials, or here...

Media Wristlet

Here's a great little holder for your camera, phone, Ipod, or any other small media. It has a small strap so you can hang it from your purse, wrist, stroller, bike, or anywhere within fast reach.

Little Lady Bloomers

If your daughter is anything like mine, she loves dresses and skirts. She also likes running with the boys in our neighborhood. After one too many episodes of her accidentally flashing someone, I quickly sewed her a pair of bloomers so she could feel a little more lady-like when her dress blows around while she rides her bike.

Materials Needed:
-1 1/2 yards of fabric (more or less depending on the amount of ruffles you want)
-1/4 inch wide elastic

Bloomers are basically tiny shorts with elastic around the legs. If you have a pattern for shorts, just use that. If you don't, just use a shape similar to this...

cut four of these, two for the front, and two for the back. The crotch part of the back should be just a little longer than the front.

1. Sew along the curved part of the two back pieces, then repeat with the front pieces.

2. Cut out your strips, which will become ruffles. They should be about 2 inches wide and about 20 inches long. The longer you cut, the more ruffly they will bunch up.

3. Serge down the long sides of all of your strips. If you don't have a serger, you could zig-zag, leave them raw, or even use ribbon for this project.

4. Set your sewing machine's stitch length to the longest it will go and sew right down the middle of all of your strips. Make sure you leave a few inches of thread hanging off each end.

5. Holding one thread, slide the fabric down, thus bunching it up.

6. Ruffle your fabric strips until they are approximatley the length of the back of your bloomers. Mine needed to be about 13 inches.

7. Pin the ruffles to one side of the bloomers. Sew down that side.

8. Pin on the other side.

9. Sew directly down the middle of the ruffles all the way across.

10. Sew down the other side of your bloomers.

11. Place the front piece on top of the back piece, and sew down both sides.

12. Sew the crotch.

13. Iron over elastic casings for the waist and both legs and sew, making sure to leave an open space to insert the elastic.

14. Insert your elastic and sew the elastic openings shut.

You're finished! Put those adorable things on your little lady and tell the neighborhood the show is over!

Media Wristlet Tutorial

I recently discovered that my sister was housing her camera in an pink glove. A cheap, pink knit glove. I try to never miss an opportunity to create, so I quickly promised her I'd sew her something a little less...glove-y. And behold, the media wristlet!

Materiels Needed:
-1/4 yard of fabric
-velcro
-a pretty button (optional)
-ring
-clasp

1. Cut your fabric into these shapes...

2. Take one of your flap pieces and sew the velcro onto it. Sew it on now instead of later so that the stitches won't be visible on the front of the flap.

3. Put your two flap pieces right sides together and sew them together along the curved side. Turn it right side out and iron it.

4. Let's make a sandwich! Take two body pieces, wrong sides together, and put your flap on top. Sew them all together along the straight edge.

5. Serge along all sides of your strap. If you don't have a serger, don't worry, just skip this step. Fold it in half the long way and iron it.

6. Iron the seams over on both sides.

7. Fold the strap over and sew all down the side.

8. Fold the fabric on one end of the strap over the clasp and sew.

9. Repeat with the ring.

11. Take the other two body pieces and sew them along the top, right sides together, then turn them right side out and iron.  Sew the other piece of velcro onto this piece.

11. Time for another sandwich! Take the flap/body piece from step 4, place your strap into one of the corners (fold a section of the strap over and let a little chunk hang out of the side)...

...then add the other body piece on top.

Sew them together all along the curved side, taking care not to run over the strap except at the corner piece.

13. Add a button, if you want...

Now you have a great little media holder! Put your camera in it, put your ipod in it, you could even put your cell phone in there!
